When I got recruited to play college soccer, there were definitely certain aspects of fitness that I wanted to focus on and enhance. I was looking for a way to get in shape that involved both strength training as well as a good deal of cardio. Usually, to get in shape I just ran long distance and although it helped me to an extent on the soccer field, my speed, agility and strength was still not where I wanted it to be. I heard about CFH from a friend and decided to give it a try. I also needed a good way to strengthen my knee after an MCL injury and as soon as I got going with CFH my knee pain went away almost immediately.
Crossfit is completely different from any other training I’ve done in the past. You come in everyday and get a workout that is completely different from the day before and I think the fact that you see such amazing results is a testament to the coaches and the way each workout is structured. Everything has a purpose and can translate into whatever aspect of fitness you’re looking to improve. Like mentioned before, for me, that aspect was soccer. I was given a summer workout packet from my college and coaches Dave and Joey worked to help implement my fitness packet into my workouts and also worked one on one with me after regular WODS to improve in the areas I wanted to. The results I received were absolutely amazing and I went into preseason training in the best shape of my life.
Another awesome feature of crossfit is that every exercise is scalable so it does not matter what level of fitness you are at, the coaches will find something to work for you and benefit your needs. This not only helps for beginners, but also allows crossfitters to see their own improvements and get stronger over time. If you put in the work, you will see results.
The one attribute that sets crossfit gyms apart from other gyms is the one reason I will never step foot in a conventional gym again. The atmosphere at the box is something that you truly have to experience to believe. Every single person is cheering you on and especially because the workouts are so intense that support is what pushes you through barriers that might have stopped you otherwise.
CFH has given me more than I can even put into words. The constant support from every member who pushed me to do “one more” rep everyday is a true testament to the contagious spirit and heart that is instilled in the CFH community. I’ve met some pretty amazing people during my time here. Special thanks to coaches Dave and Joey and all the other coaches who helped me get stronger and faster everyday and helped me to become the athlete I’ve always wanted to be.
