Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are all CrossFit gyms the same?

    No! All CrossFit gyms are individually owned and operated, we are not a franchise. Our affiliation to CrossFit is based on our passion for quality training and programming and love of functional movements done at high intensity. What does this mean to you? You should check out the facilities, the coaches, and the classes. Some gyms may omit Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and other modalities. Some programs are based on body weight only. The experience and skill level of coaches and trainers also vary. Are you just paying for someone to tell you what to do (definitely NOT the same as someone showing you what and how; and getting you to understand why)? Is there real coaching going on? Are you learning new skills and moving forward? So again, we are all similar, but can be vastly different. Choose what fits you best and your goals. No matter what, I am glad you found CrossFit. Done correctly, it is the BEST strength and conditioning programming around!
  • Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?

    No. Our workouts and exercises are scalable to any fitness level. We’ve had everyone from eighty-five-year-old grandmothers to morbidly obese people, and they’ve all been fine. You will too.
  • I have/had an injury. Can I still do CrossFit?

    Many of our members have successfully used CrossFit to rehabilitate from minor injuries. Because people continue to move, work, and play in the real world regardless of injury history, we believe the best route to long-term health is to learn perfect form on functional movements, then to slowly build strength in those movements, rather than to avoid them altogether. At the same time, our instructors are always happy to work with you to scale and substitute exercises, to tailor workouts to your abilities. That said, we cannot offer you specific medical advice, and advise that you consult your physician before starting this (or any other) exercise program.
  • How do I start?

  • When can I get started?

    First you must complete one of the Foundation programs.
  • I’m really fit and would like to skip the foundation program and come to the Workout of the Day (WOD) class, can I do that?

    No. You must complete our CrossFit Foundations program before being allowed to take WOD classes.
  • Will CrossFit make me bulky?

  • I’m just visiting Hamilton, but I am an experienced CrossFitter visiting from another affiliate. Can I come workout?

    We welcome experienced CrossFitters from all over. Please give us a heads up of your visit by emailing us so that we can advise you of our WOD schedule.
  • I have relocated from another area or have moved into your neighborhood. Can I visit and start WOD classes?

    As mentioned above, any experienced CrossFitter is welcome to attend one of our regular, all levels WOD classes. Before allowing you to skip the Foundations program, you’ll need to be able to exhibit good knowledge and safety in the basics of CrossFit. You do not have to be a superstar, but you do need to know the movements and how to perform them safely.
  • How much does the Foundations program cost?

    5-6 sessions for $200-300. The typical workshop is a progressive class meeting 2 times a week for 3 weeks. Prices vary based on Coach.
  • What does the Foundations Class cover?

    We’ll be coaching you in several aspects. Including CrossFit philosophies, nutrition, body weight exercises, the slow lifts (squat, deadlift and press), metabolic conditioning (a.k.a. “MetCon”), olympic lifting (clean, jerk, snatch). We’ll also be ramping you up to the intensity of our normal all levels WOD classes.
  • Why does the Foundations Class cost so much?

    We keep the class size small so you receive individual or small group attention. Each class is taught by a CrossFit Trainer. A similar workshop covering similar material would cost you $300-$500 for one day and you would not get nearly the same level of attention. We spread out the information learned over the course of three weeks so you can assimilate it better.
  • What if I don’t want to join CFH after completing the Foundations program?

    That’s cool. There is no commitment required beyond the workshop you have signed up for. If you don’t join, then you have walked away with four weeks of great coaching and a good, working knowledge of CrossFit.
